“His stand against racism in America”
In 1968 the American culture was rocked by the actions of John carlos and his stand against racial discrimination, poverty and segregation. I took interest in this topic because I’m genuinely curious to find out what makes people racist, what leads to the racist actions done. And how such a little thing like raising your fist can send such a powerful message throughout the world.
I came across John carlos and his stand. I researched racism in America and compared it to other nations like Greece, England, France and countless other European and African countries to see where America has progressed in its fight against racism and discrimination since Martin Luther King jr. and his fight. I also went to the wilson library to find out more on why we have racism and to find out more about the actual event of the 1968 Mexico City Olympic protest.
I came to the idea of a website mainly because it seemed like a very easy thing to get around, with the Weebly resources, but it's not it has been very difficult not using Weebly but just figuring out where things should go, when to have spacers, pictures and such since you get so much freedom with Weebly. and overall I felt like a website was probably not the way to go since it gives you so much freedom to do whatever you want it's hard to decide.
I used Weebly to complete my webiste even though it was very hard. I consulted my cousin, a website designer for ideas and he helped me tremendously put together my website. I used John Carlos’s website to help me with information along with things like TIME magazine and such to get valuable resources that I can use. I also used John Carlos’s book to get some first hand accounts of the event that changed history.
My Project relates to the topic this year in many ways, the impact of this great event. Such as how much the protests changed the world of racism and discrimination. John Carlos was one of the most important figure in Human Rights but also one of the most forgotten figures in Human Rights.
