John Carlos and Tommie smith did not have it easy getting daily death threats, people vandalizing their homes, being assaulted were just some repercussions that they had to face in their amazing stand in history. John Carlos and Tommie Smith also got banned from the Olympic village, getting kicked off the team and much more even though they were the two fastest runners in the world, racial discrimination prevailed and America then got put at the forefront of criticism but not just America, the Olympic Committee did as well due to the fact that they had a president who was racist and actually supported hate groups like the KKK. The worst of it came from the American public. Now most people today already know even when the black population did have some rights racism was still awful, but then it was a lot worse because you had this black guy speaking out at such a formal event risking being shot right there by KKK members and other white supremacists. saying it’s not okay yet in America most black people wouldn’t dare to go against one racist person let alone a country. This is where John Carlo's bravery shined, showing that he is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. John Carlos is not the only person to do this either, but he risked the most out of any of the athletes involved in racism and human rights.
